The Amgen Multisport Team held the 1st Annual Amgen Triathlon on August 18th at Zuma Beach in Malibu, CA. The event consisted of an approximately 1/2 mile swim, and 17 mile bike and a 5km run. Approximately 60 people took part in the event which followed the Nautica Malibu Triathlon course. First timers and seasoned triathletes alike showed up to hone their skills under perfect conditions.

The 1st Annual Amgen Triathlon was a great success, thanks to our sponsors and volunteers. We want to thank the following for their support and help:

  • Whole Foods Market - prizes and water
  • Road Runner Sports - Free pair of shoes and Erin Baker Cookies
  • Amgym - Coordinating lifeguards for the swim
  • MESP - Use of transition bike racks

We couldn't have done a thing without the help of our volunteers. Vanessa, Rolando and Joe were paramount to timing and scoring. Jose was our registration guru; he did a great job efficiently getting everyone signed in. Jose also brought one of the best salsas I've had in quite a while. Who would have thought tostadas and salsa make a perfect post race meal. Terry and Chriss did a great job helping to mark the course. Without them, no one would have known where to go and probably would have ended up in Mexico! Regis and Joe provided tech support. Due to their help, many of the athletes had a safe and enjoyable ride. Thanks to Dave, we had the transition racks from MESP. Without the racks there would have been a yard sale of bikes and gear across the Zuma Beach parking lot.
